Match Report | Exe 4 v Okehampton 2. Okehampton ladies seconds travelled to Exeter to play against Exe’s 4th team, with only a point between them for 3rd position in the league. To begin with the pressure was unfortunately mostly on Okehampton’s defence with Exe forcing numerous attacks on goal and regrettably leading to two goals in the first half. However goalkeeper Lucy Wiseman made some excellent saves which prevented any further goals from being scored. Despite gallant efforts by Anna Speak, Emma Wiseman and Zoe Curtis to dribble the ball at pace up the wings, keeping play wide, the Exe defence was at the ready every time, preventing any opportunity to level the score. Sandy Douglas, sweeper and Hannah Hawes (player of the match) playing in centre, put the pressure on the home teams midfield, managing to push the ball further up the pitch during the second half to the centre midfielders Viv Weatherington and Tilly Dixon (joint player of the match) passing it onto awaiting forwards, Jess Medland, Ellie Shalyer and Alex Colllins who had a few shots on goal but these were unfortunately saved by Exe’s keeper. Okehampton somehow lost their drive and usual passion to fight back and by the end of the match Exe’s attackers had managed to obtain two more goals leaving the final score at a disappointing 4-0 loss. Next week: Okehampton 2nds play at home to Ashmoor. Written by Anna Speak |
