Match Report | Okehampton Ladies 2 v Dart 3 Dart won 3-1 This was the first match that the home team had played together for some weeks due to a cancellation and break in league fixtures. It was clear from the onset that the players were in fighting form regardless of the less than favourable weather conditions. Okehampton started the match well keeping possession of the ball. Midfielders Tilly Dixon, Ellie Shayler and Emily Rowlands fighting to win early possession and passing it forward to awaiting attackers Emma Wiseman and Alex Collins. But a strong Dart defence prevented them taking any shots on goal. But then play swiftly changed direction and it wasn’t long before the home side found the visitors challenging their defence. Debbie Pritchard and Anna Luxton kept the play wide to prevent any clear strikes at goal but even when Dart did find the gaps through the middle of the circle, player of the match, Rachel Adams, quickly regained possession and feed the ball back out to awaiting wingers Zoe Curtis and Sarah Marvin. Dart were relentless and kept the pressure on, and despite all efforts from goalie Lucy Wiseman, they found the back of the net with a fast strong shot at goal. In the face of the driving rain, Okehampton fought back, Molly Marvin skilfully dribbling the ball forwards and into the circle, Dart fouled and conceding a short corner. Alex Collins put a long driving shot towards the left post and Tilly Dixon, perfectly poised deflected the ball into the goal. The Okehampton team were back in play. The rest of the match was played in strong winds and driving rain and regardless of Okehampton’s tireless efforts the Dart side remained ever determined. Even though Dart missed several straightforward opportunities to score they did eventually displace the Okehampton’s steadfast defence and regardless of the quick footed blocks from goalie, Lucy Wiseman, Dart to took the final winning score at 3-1. Next week Okehampton play their final match of the year in Exeter against ISCA 5. Report written by Sandra Douglas |
