Okehampton 2 v Exe 5

This Saturday's match played in much more clement conditions was an important home match. The team had fallen to 7th in the league so a win was much needed. Tidy passes between forwards Alex Collins, Rachel Adams, and Emma Wiseman prevented Exe from clearing the ball out of their defence. A wide pass to midfielder, Jess Medland drew the goalie wide, Collins ready for the return shot, sliced the ball into the back of the net. Okey took the early lead. Midfielders, Viv Weatherington, Zoe Curtis and Ellie Shayler, teamed up well. Short square passes between them gave Exe little opportunity to gain possession. Rachel Adams poised on the left post received a well placed shot by Viv Weatherington scooping it past the goalie taking the score to 2 nil in the opening minutes.

Okey were fired up and what followed reflected the home team's passion and determination to win. Captain Emma Wiseman, put pace into the game driving the ball speedily along the left wing. A single shot across the circle from her was deflected by Collins into an open goal. Okey kept the pressure on. Debbie Pritchard, right defence, closed down play for the opposition, intercepting many passes between the Exe players feeding the ball back into the circle. Rachel Adams, voted player of the match, positioned herself wide of the goal free to receive the passing shots. She took advantage of the space, scoring a further 2 goals leading the team to an impressive 5 nil lead.

The okey defenders had little to do in the first half but Exe upped their game after half time putting some pressure on the okey defence. Left back Anna Luxton kept the Exe wing wide blocking their passes across the circle. Any loose balls were swiftly stopped and cleared back into midfield by Hannah Hawes. But Okehampton played a fast but skilful match right to the final whistle. Two further goals from Emma Wiseman and Viv Weatherington secured an impressive 7-0 win proving that they are tough opposition for the other teams in their league despite a drop in their performance just before the Christmas break.

Okehampton play away to Honiton next week.
