Hockey Match Report: Okehampton 2 v Teign 3

On 29th January Okehampton Ladies 2 met Teign 3 for a blustery league game at home. Okehampton started strong with lots of passing through their players and even when Teign headed back into Okehampton half, Sweeper Sandy Douglas kept the ball well away with her powerful shots up field to strikers Viv Weatherington, Alex Collins and Emma Wiseman. But it wasn’t long until Okehampton took an unsurprising lead with a lovely goal mid-way through the first half from Alex Collins. Despite many other attempts to break the Teign defence they stayed strong with players deep into their own half. The score stayed 1-0 to Okehampton for the remainder of the match.

 Emma Wiseman and Molly Marvin (Player of the Match) made some essential and seemingly effortless passes up to Zoe Curtis ; left wing and Ellie Shayler on right wing who crossed the ball multiple time into the circle but for Okehampton they could just not find the back board of the goal even despite most of the play being in the Teign half. But the fact Okehampton failed to score for a second time was irrelevant because the Okehampton seconds defence consisting of Debbie Pritchard on the left, Ailsa Gibb in the middle and Anna on the right kept the Teign players way out of the circle so goalie Lucy Wiseman had comparatively little to do but did make some excellent saves during the match. Despite the chill of the afternoon and occasional rain showers Okehampton played well for a well-deserved win.
