Match Report |
Ashmoor v Okehampton 2 The ladies club fielded the minimum 33 players across the 3 teams. The 2nd team were no exception travelling to Exeter with the minimum 11 players. Laura Bazeley, Maddie Arden, Sarah Marvin and Emily Rowlands joined the team usually playing for the 3rds. But their input was invaluable. Maddie Ardens fast pace up and down the right wing kept the opposition busy. She linked with Emma Wiseman who drove the ball into the opposition circle on numerous occasions but just couldn't get the ball past Ashmoors agile goalie. Forward attackers Alex Collins and Emily Rolands produced some dainty passes to each other but denied any clear strikes at goal by the opposition defenders. The midfielders Viv Weatherington, Sarah Marvin and Debbie Pritchard worked relentlessly throughout the whole match. Running up and down the pitch supporting busy defenders and feeding the ball through to the forward line up. Debbie Pritchard covered the pitch well, intercepting any loose ball and dribbling it forward away from possession of the Ashmoor attackers earning her a well deserved joint 'Player of the match'. The defenders were kept busy. Anna Luxton preventing Ashmoor getting into the circle with some of her best block tackles seen. Rachel Adams in right defence ensured that the oppositions efforts to score were denied with skilful stick and ball manoeuvres and Sandy Douglas, nursing an injury tried her utmost to clear the ball out of the circle but was unable to put her usual pace into the game. But it was Laura Bazley that denied Ashmoor a high winning score. Having recently commenced playing in goal and debuting for the 2nd team she consistently blocked every attacking ball earning a well deserved 'Player of the match' too. The final whistle blew with Ashmoor winning 2-0 but with the Okehampton side leaving the pitch knowing that the winning score was kept in low figures thanks to their diligent efforts. Okehampton 2 have a break next Saturday but return the following week for their penultimate match away against Dart 3 Written by Sandra Douglas |
