Okehampton Ladies 3rd team 0   Penzance Ladies 2nd team 3

Oke ladies 3rd team travelled to Penzance for their league hockey match on Saturday.

Penzance, who were relegated from a higher league at the end of last season, were a determined and strong team.  Their experienced players were quick on the break, attacking in numbers and passing the ball slickly up the pitch.  The inexperienced Oke team were punished for lapse marking in defence when Penzance broke free and hammered the ball into the Oke net.

Oke responded quickly marking the Penzance attackers with discipline and determination, soaking up the Penzance pressure.  Centre back Debbie Pritchard organised the Oke defenders encouraging strong tackling and hard clearances.  Their young forwards Maddie Arden and Emily Rowlands were quick to pick up these balls and use their speed to force Penzance to defend.  But the home team were soon on the attack again and, despite some fantastic saves from Oke Keeper Lucy Wiseman, they increased the lead to 2-0 by half time.

After a constructive half time talk Oke were ready for a hard fight.  Player of the Match Elsa Frangleton at left half connected well with left back Melissa Pinfield to cut out the Penzance attack down the right wing.  The mother and daughter combination of Sarah and Molly Marvin combined well through the middle of the pitch with quick, slick passes moving the ball towards the Penzance goal.  Oke were unlucky not to get on the score sheet when Maddie Arden sped into the circle and her shot on goal was knocked just outside the post.

Despite still playing with enthusiasm Oke conceded another goal to give a final score of 3-0.

Next week Oke 3rd team play at home against Plymouth University 3rd team at 3.30pm
