OKEHAMPTON LADIES 3RD TEAM 1 LAUNCESTON 2

Oke Ladies 3rd team travelled to Liskeard to play their league fixture against Launceston.

Oke started well passing the ball around the pitch stretching the Launceston team.  Attacker Emily Rowlands had a fast, skilful run through the centre of the pitch and then off loaded the ball to Larissa Goodger who was hovering in the Launceston circle ready to slam the ball into the back of the net.

The strong, physical Launceston team stepped up their game using their power to push past the Oke team players and they were rewarded with an equaliser. After Georgie Stanistead in her first game for Oke, sustained a nasty hand injury from a lifted Launceston ball the Oke team lost their shape and despite defending frantically could not prevent Launceston from scoring their second goal before half time.

Oke rearranged their team for the second half with centre back Carol Taylor organising the defence.  They marked tightly and this encouraged midfielders Molly Marvin and Elsa Frangleton to move the ball forward and deliver some good passes to the Oke forwards.  Oke had a period of pressure when they were awarded five penalty corners in succession but they could not convert these chances into an equalising goal.

Oke’s Player of the Match was awarded to forward Emily Rowlands who worked tirelessly dropping back to help defend and then bursting into attack to pressurise the Launceston defence.

Next week Oke 3rd team travel to Plymouth to play Marjons 4th team.
