OKEHAMPTON 3RD TEAM 2 PENZANCE 2ND TEAM 5
Okehampton Ladies 3rd team played host to Penzance 2nd team on Saturday in the Trelawney 2 league. Penzance were placed in the top third of the league with some very experienced players in their team so Oke knew this would be a tough fixture. Throughout the first half the teams had equal possession but the Penzance team were more goal hungry pouncing on every scoring opportunity. Oke's defenders Joey Drake and Rochelle Woollacott worked together cutting our several Penzance attacking moves but the clever Penzance forwards created enough space for a decisive shot on goal to give them the lead. They consolidated their lead with an unstoppable cannon ball like strike from a short corner. Just before half time Penzance increased their lead to 3-0 with another well taken goal. The second half saw Oke step up their game determined to turn their possession into goals. Emily Rowlands and Larissa Goodger dominated Oke's midfield putting constant pressure on the Penzance players and distributing the ball to their attackers. Oke's Sophie Tripp, in her first game back after a three year break pounced on a deflection in the circle to put the ball into the back of the net. Penzance retaliated immediately with a breakaway run from their speedy wing catching the Oke defence off their guard and increasing their lead to 4-1. Oke were soon back on the attack with forward Georgie Stanistead looking dangerous with her quick moves and slick ball control. Sophie Tripp sealed her return to the team when she picked up a ball from midfield and drew the defence to the edge of the circle before hammering it into the back of the Penzance net. Oke's Player of the Match, Elsa Frangleton took control of the right midfield intercepting many Penzance balls aiming for their speedy wing, and then driving forward into the opposition's circle. Oke were unlucky to concede another goal near the end of the match despite some heroic saves by their keeper Daisy Morgan Next week Oke 3rd play away at Plymouth University. |
