Okehampton Ladies 3rd team Match Report 12/9/15

Oke Ladies 1  Exe 5th team 1

The newly formed Oke Ladies 3rd team hosted a friendly fixture against Exe 5th team on Saturday.

The Oke team consisted of several ladies who had been introduced to the game through the Clubs’ Back to Hockey sessions and some junior players who are making the transition into senior hockey.

The teams were evenly matched but it was the younger players on both teams who used their speed to create end-to-end hockey.  Oke’s combination of Elsa Frangleton, Molly Marvin and Emily Rowlands worked well together dominating the middle of the pitch.  Oke’s determination was rewarded when Emily Rowlands hammered the ball into the Exe net from a penalty corner.

In the second half Oke began to gain in confidence resulting in Oke being awarded several penalty corners but they were unlucky not to be able to convert these chances into goals.

Exe’s talented young forwards pushed up the field forcing Oke’s keeper Daisy Morgan to make several critical saves but a piercing solo run from Exe outwitted all the Oke defence to get the equaliser.

Oke’s Player of the Match was awarded to Emily Rowlands.
