Dart 3 v Okehampton 2

Okehampton's second team lost their last 2 matches so this final away match of the season was an opportunity to rectify their performance. Ten minutes in and Okehampton were dominating play. Accurate passing, possession and creative play ensured that midfielders Maddie Arden, Emily Rowlands, Debbie Pritchard and Jane Jones had ample opportunities to feed the ball forwards to the awaiting attackers Alex Collins and Viv Weatherington. They were able to connect together with their short passes keeping the Dart defence busy. A quick ball into the circle by Jane Jones to an unmarked Viv Weatherington standing directly in front of the goal made the difference. She made a firm strike at goal, wide of the goalie and hitting the net. Okehampton were in the lead.   Dart 3 were not giving the visiting side opportunities to increase their lead, in fact they put considerable pressure on the team. Okehampton had to dig deep to win the ball and keep possession. Left defence, Anna Luxton channeled their wing numerous times along the sideline forcing them to put the ball out of play and in right defence, Lois Rowlands was continuously running to intercept any loose balls and keep them clear of the okehampton circle. But the home team's attacking forwards were relentless, they made several attempts to get in the Okehampton circle. This led to a penalty corner but goalie Lucy Wiseman demonstrated just how key her skills and resilience were, blocking several balls from crossing the line. The okehampton side fought hard to score again. Wingers, Emma Wiseman and Annabelle Rademaker were key players making the link between cleared balls from the defenders out of the circle up to the forward line. Alex Collins took advantage of space amongst the Dart defence and scooped the ball into her possession. She found a gap just in front of the goalie and sliced the ball past hitting the back board. 2-0 to Okehampton at half time. The rest of the match saw Okehampton dominate play leaving the defence with little to do but cheer the rest of the team on. But despite their strength of play the final whistle blew with the score remaining at 2-0. Emily Rowlands was voted player of the match.   Final league match of the season home against ISCA 5 in 2 weeks time.  Report complied by Sandra Douglas
