Match Report | OKEHAMPTON LADIES 3RD TEAM 2 PLYMOUTH MARJONS 4TH TEAM 4
Oke ladies 3rd team travelled to Plymouth on Saturday to play Marjons 4th team in the West Womens league. Oke made the journey with just 11 players and an injury to Sarah Bazeley in the first 5 minutes of the game meant they played the remainder of the match with only 10. This initially unsettled the team with Marjons having the majority of possession but Oke began to work well as a defensive unit. Oke’s full backs Lois Rowlands, Joey Drake and Anna Luxton showed off their tackling skills making it difficult for Marjons to attack the goal. But the quick and powerful Marjons attack moved the Oke players around taking advantage of having an extra player and scored their first goal from a wide angled shot. Using the width of the pitch to draw out the Oke defence Marjons found space in the middle of the circle to strike home their second. Oke worked hard with their midfield players Sarah Marvin and Melissa Pinfield continually putting Marjons under pressure. A penalty corner was awarded to the visitors after a period of Oke attack and a well-practiced routine saw Zoe Curtis pass to Joey Drake who was free near the post to hammer the ball home. Oke became more confident with Zoe Curtis pushing up in attack to test the Marjons defenders. Unfortunately Marjons extended their lead with a breakaway goal but Oke soon retaliated with a sizzling run from Zoe Curtis up the left wing who then crossed the ball for Ellie Shayler to run onto and score Oke’s second goal making the score 3-2 to Marjons. Oke began to tire and were forced to play a defensive game as Marjons pushed their players forward. Marjons were awarded a penalty flick after a goal mouth battle resulted in the ball being stopped by an Oke foot on the line. Oke’s keeper and Player of the Match, Daisy Morgan kept her cool and produced a fantastic save to a well taken flick. Daisy then made several crucial saves with great clearances to keep her team in the game. Unfortunately Marjons scored a final goal just before the end of a tough match for Oke. Next Saturday Oke third team play Plym Valley 2nds at Oke at 3.30pm |
