Match Report | OKEHAMPTON LADIES 3RD TEAM 2 PLYM VALLEY 2ND TEAM 3
Oke knew this would be a hard fixture as Plym Valley had just moved down from Trelawney Division 1 to Division 2. Surprisingly Oke had the majority of possession in the first ten minutes but despite intense pressure from Nicky Strawbridge and Sandy Houston they couldn’t find the back of the Plym Valley net. Plym Valley were a strong, determined team and they soon settled and attacked in force. A prolonged period of defensive play from Oke saw them concede two penalty corners which were hammered into the Oke goal. Oke retaliated by passing the ball accurately and quickly around the pitch always supporting the player with the ball. Their strong team work was rewarded with Sophie Tripp pounced on a loose ball in the Plym Valley circle and scored Oke’s first goal. Exciting end to end hockey tested the fitness of both teams. Oke were looking for an equaliser but were dealt a blow when Plym Valley were awarded another penalty corner which they passed around the circle in a well practiced move wrong footing the defense and taking the score to 3-1 to the visitors. The younger Oke players stepped up their game with a penetrating run up the right wing from Player of the Match Ellie Shayler. Ellie smashed a tornado-like ball across the Plym Valley circle to find Zoe Curtis perfectly placed to slot the ball into the net. In the last five minutes Oke pushed their players up towards the Plym Valley goal desperate to score an equaliser but disciplined defending from the visitors denied Oke the goal they needed. Next week Oke third team play away against Plymouth University 3rd team. |
