Match Report |
Okehampton began this match with confidence and their quick passing soon began to cause the opposition problems. Several chances were created with Stuart Jarvis narrowly missing from a one on one opportunity with the keeper. The students were struggling to find their form and when they did launch attacks sound defence, especially from Jimmy L-Humbert, kept them at bay. Okehampton became frustrated at their failure to break the deadlock but eventually, after the ball had “pinballed” around the D from a short corner and Jake Lloyd managed to open the scoring. Okehampton looked to push home their advantage at the start of the second half but went through a period where they seemed incapable of stringing any passes together. The University side sensed they were gaining the upper hand and man of the match John Jarvis was forced to make several important tackles and dribble himself out of trouble. A badly timed substitution left the Okehampton right flank exposed and the opposition took full advantage to level the scores. Inspired by this, the students quickly scored twice more and a fantastic double save from debutant keeper Matt Westlake was needed to keep Okehampton in the match. The home side regrouped and began to find their passing accuracy again. After a quick release from Tom Hutchins and 3 first time passes James Hoskins was able to tap the ball home at the far post. However, time had run out and Okehampton were left wondering how they had managed to lose this encounter.
