This week Okehampton's seconds were at home, to face their final game of the season against Bodmin. The half started well from both teams applying pressure from the off. With good link up play from the forwards, Okehampton secured the first short corner. With a well rehearsed drill, pushed out from Jake Lloyd saw Toby Lloyd cushion and sweep the ball back into the danger zone for Jake to deflect it into the top of the net. With heads up from this, Okehampton continue to fight hard to extend the lead. Bodmin reshuffled and managed to quickly turn the tables. 1, 2 and 3. They managed to score a number of goals in quick succession. Oke were now on the back foot and knew they had to fight hard to get back into contention. The home side managed to win a penalty flick, which Toby Lloyd stepped up for. It was picked by the young Bodmin keeper who made the save. Bodmin took this opportunity to re-apply the pressure and worked the ball through Oke's mid to defence and converted yet a another goal just before the half time whistle. The second half saw a determined Okehampton side, eager to win back some goals. They were rewarded by winning a number of short corners which the home side used to their advantage. Having options on the edge of the D, they played the ball setting up another goal for Jake Lloyd to tuck away. With the score now at 4-2, Okehampton continued to seek further goals with strong play all around. Working the ball along the wings, set up further opportunities for Oke to attack Bodmin's defence causing confusion and Brett Lawson put another much needed goal away. Heads were high at this point for both teams as Bodmin were still ahead. Playing simple balls around the pitch made it easy to find Jake Lloyd to work his magic,he evened up the score to 4-4. At this stage, both teams were fighting for the win. Bodmin managed to play the ball from side to side making Okehampton chase, expelling their remaining energy. Neatly finding their players in prime positions, they found the back of the net for the fifth goal. Undeterred, the home side continued to fight. The pressure was on to see a draw or a win at best. With the clock running down Okehampton made a last ditch attempt to play the ball around seeking an opportunity to put the ball away. A decent run from Stuart Jarvis enabled Rob Yells to cut the ball directly to him. Still running, calls coming in from multiple players giving Stuart many options. It was decided to lay to the ball off through the passage of players finding Jake Lloyd to cream the defence of Bodmin to secure his fourth goal. The final whistle blew with a score of 5-5. What an exciting final game of the season and a truly memorable way to finish for both teams.
