Match Report | On a sunny trip down to Torbay Okehampton took a exciting side mixing both youth and a lot of experience hoping to come away with the first win of the season. Starting strongly with the back four, consisting of Jimmy, John, Ben and George holding off any penetrating attacks. However, a lapse in concentration led to a Torbay player being unmarked on the back post. He coolly put the ball away and gave the hosts a 1-0 lead. This caused Torbay to get their tails up and they surged forward into Okehampton territory and forced a short corner. A brilliant strike from the Torbay striker gave them another goal and made the score line 2-0. Okehampton finally woke up after the second goal and had a brilliant 10 minute spell with strikes from Will, Chris and Brett, but were not quite enough to make it past the Torbay keeper. After half time, an energised Okehampton team started well and continued to put pressure on Torbay, but to no avail. However, Torbay slowly started to attack again giving wing backs and joint men of the match George Morgan and Ben Bowles something to do. Eventually Torbay won another short corner which they duly converted, extending their lead. Again, Torbay seemed to gain confidence from this goal and pushed forwards. Good tackles from John and diving clearances from Jimmy kept the hosts at bay. However, when Torbay won a ball at the top of Okehampton’s D, they decided to run the ball and take a shot, scoring their fourth goal. After this, Okehampton then started to put pressure back on Torbay, holding them in their 25 for a short period. A lightning break from Torbay created the opportunity for the last goal of the game. Final score 5-0 to Torbay. |
