Match Report | OKEHAMPTON LADIES 3RD TEAM 1 TORBAY 2ND TEAM 1 For the second week running Oke Ladies 3rd team faced opposition that played in a higher league last season. This week the Oke team were better prepared ready for the challenging match ahead against Torbay 2nd team. Oke attacked from the starting whistle pushing forward at every opportunity and looking for gaps in the Torbay defence. Oke’s younger team members played with confidence with Lucy Wiseman intercepting well and driving forward using her speed and skill. Sophie Mugliston marked tightly, tackling well and distributing the ball to the Oke attack. The first half was evenly matched with both teams having goal scoring opportunities but strong defending kept them from scoring. Oke’s goalie, Ella Kaye, made several crucial saves to keep her team in the game. Both Oke and Torbay came out in the second half looking for a win. Eleanor Marvin had several shots on goal for Oke but the agile Torbay keeper moved quickly to save her attempts. Oke passed the ball quickly and accurately around the Torbay circle spreading the defenders and so creating a gap for Rochelle Woollacott to put a perfectly placed pass towards the goal which found Viv Weatherington waiting to crack the ball into the back of the net. Torbay came back with force piling on the pressure and despite courageous defending from Oke’s Lisa May, they gained several penalty corners. Sarah Marvin had the role of running out at the attacking striker and used her lightning speed to prevent Torbay capitalising from their corners. Torbay’s equaliser came from a quick interception which gave them a clear shot on goal. Oke were desperate to get a winning goal and the electric pace of their Player of the Match, Annie Strawbridge, on the right wing soon had Oke back in the scoring zone. Despite several goalmouth scuffles Oke could not get the ball over the goal-line and had to be content with a draw. Next Saturday Oke 3rd team play ISCA 5th team at Oke at 2pm
