Match Report | Okehampton came up against a very experienced Ashmoor side in the extreme weather conditions of storm Brain. Ashmoor set the early pressure with Okes young goalkeeper Matthew Westlake making some superb saves to keep the home side in the contest. However there was nothing the young keeper could do to keep out Ashmoor’s first goal of the afternoon. The home side didn’t let their heads drop and after a well worked short corner Lawson found Luxton who played in George to tap into an empty net. As the storm increased so did the Ashmoor attack, and Westlake was called upon again to make a string of fine saves for the home team. With minutes to go before half time Ashmoor went 2-1 up. The second half resumed with Ashmoor in the ascendancy, but some ill-discipline saw them reduced to 10 men with a string of green cards. Taking the numerical advantage Okehampton turned the tide and increased the pressure on the depleted away side, but they were unable to convert the chances that they created. Ashmoor back to the full 11 pressed well and as the game reached it’s conclusion scored a further two goals to finish the game 1-4. Fielding junior players Matt Westlake, Will Ash, Ben Bowles, Ben Yelland and outstanding Man of the Match Jacob Smith the future is bright! They showed a level of maturity way beyond their years and all contributed superbly to a good team display. |
