Match Report

The Men's second team faced a strong and experienced PGSOB B team on Saturday. The game started briskly with PG's on the attack pressurising the Oke defence and Oke's task wasn't made any easier with a needless yellow card. The resulting short corner was drilled into the Oke net and with only two minutes on the clock they faced an uphill task. However, Oke bounced back and tried to create some attacking moves with Ben Yelland and Jacob Smith combining well on numerous occasions to move the ball down the left hand side. PG's were able to repel these advances and pin Oke back into their own half. Despite valiant defence from Tim Morgan and John Jarvis and some excellent saves from Andrew Hookway in the Oke goal, further goals soon followed, and the 0-3 scoreline at half time looked ominous. The pace slowed in the second half, but Oke were given fresh impetus with the arrival of Joff Stevens who chased hard and combined well with Man of the match Martin Jones to mount some attacks on the PG's goal. One such flowing move saw the ball move from midfield out to Smith on the left flank and back to Jones whose pass found George Morgan. He drew the keeper and passed accurately for Charlie Glanville to score. Just reward for Oke's endeavours, but the experience of PG's told in the end and the final result was 1-5 to PG's; a result that takes them to the top of the table. Next week Oke travel to Truro in search of points.
