Match Report | Okehampton Ladies 3rds – 0 Kingsbridge & Salcombe 2nds - 5
Never mind the final score, Okehampton played well for large parts of this game. K&S started with force and pace and certainly initially Okehampton were very much on the back foot and were finding it hard to get the ball out of their own half. Oke defended gamely, with Carol Newman in goal making some good saves, but K&S were soon 2-0 up. Then Okehampton started to play. Maddie Davidson and Sarah Marvin closed down the K&S play in the centre of the pitch and player of the match, Annie Strawbridge, made some terrific runs down the right wing, linking up well with hard-working forward, Izzy Rowlands. The best opportunity for Okehampton to score came when the ball fell to Sarah Bazely who turned her defence but was unlucky to see her strike go just wide of the post. With Okehampton pressing forward, the swagger went out of the K&S play and half time came at a good time for the visiting side Okehampton continued to press in the second half and retained possession for long periods. Sophie Tripp found space for herself on the left wing and Anna Crome slotted into the team well on her first match for the 3rds. But the home side never really created enough scoring chances. With the desire to go forward, they got a little careless in their marking of players and despite the best efforts of defenders, Sandy Houston, Hannah Woodhams and Jennie Humphry, were well-punished with three further goals scored against them. Next week, Okehampton Ladies 3rds are away against Sidmouth & Ottery 4ths. |
