Match Report | Okehampton A braved storm Callum travelling down under to play Penzance in their 3rd game of the season. Okehampton breezed into an early 2 nil lead with goals from Luxton and Lloyd. However the away side were stopped in their tracks due to a nasty injury to centre back Gray who had to leave the field forcing Okehampton to shuffle their defence. Okehampton took time to get adjusted with their new centre back formation of Jarvis Snr and Yelland leading to Penzance to pull one back by smashing it into the Okehampton net leaving the score 2-1. Okehampton regathered their composure in the middle with an excellent play from Jacob Smith who found Jake Lloyd. Lloyd then skimmed round and slotted it into the home sides net. With half time looming Okehampton struggled to keep the Penzance attack at bay leaving the score 3-3. As the second half begun the two defensive wingers of Hughes and Glanville played well and kept any would be scorers from achieving their mark. An Okehampton long corner found its way to Man of the Match Charlie Glanville who expertly glided his way through the defence and calmly hammered the ball down through the keepers his legs. Penzance tried to fight back but Oke Captain Jimmy L-Humbert held the midfield tight and gave them very little room to manoeuvre. A quick hit out from Yelland found Luxton who outpaced the home side making a run from the halfway line to the goal; Oke were awarded a short corner following a clumsy tackle by the Penzance defence. Smith played the ball to Luxton whose pass found Stuart Jarvis who cooly slotted the ball home. Penzance fought hard to get back in the game with numerous shots but young keeper Westlake protected his goal with both his feet, hands and head, and took the wind out of their sails. With only seconds left in the game Okehampton broke again with an excellent pick from Luxton to Ash who smacked it towards goal which produced a fine save from the home keeper leaving the score as 5-3 and Okehampton with their first victory in 12 months |
