Okehampton Ladies Columbines 2 - 2

 Exe 4 - 6

Okehampton travelled to Exeter with high hopes. Unfortunately yet again it had been necessary to field a team where some players had not played together before. The unsettled start gave Exe the advantage in the first half and, despite good work by halves Louise Weller and Ellie Shayer (player of the match) the pressure was on Okehampton.

Exe’s attack proved fast and dangerous and notched up four goals in the first half. Okehampton made some adjustments to its formation and came back in the second half with the game that they had hoped to play. Okehampton dominated the play with dangerous attacks led by Zoe Curtis, Alex Collins, Hannah Whiteley and Amy Taylor.

Zoe’s superb work, well supported by Elsa Frangleton, paid off and she got Okehampton’s first goal made through fast running, swift and accurate passing and seizing the opportunity. Exe became increasingly desperate to stop Zoe as the match continued finally leading to an Exe player being sent off for obstruction.

Okehampton continued to make chances but were very unlucky with the ball not crossing that last vital inch on several occasions. Exe broke through and its dangerous attack, despite the good work of Rachel Adams and Ella Kaye in defence, forced errors on two occasions leading to the score being 5:1.

Emilia Bazeley, having another excellent game at left back, took the initiative for a solo run and nearly made a goal. It was the indefatigable Ellie Shayler who made Okehampton’s second goal with use of several rebounds from Exe’s hard working goalie finished off by Alex Collins to end the match at 6:2

Okehampton are away again next week against Newton Abbot.
