Match Report | Okehampton 2nds- 0 Exe 3 - 6
It was a damp afternoon as Okehampton 2nds faced Exe 3s, 3rd in the league. The game started well for Okehampton as they put pressure on the Exe defence early with forward Sophie Tripp making the first attempt on goal of the game. Oke had to react quickly though as Exe turned the game over quickly with strong hassle in the middle from Ellie shayler the ball was slowed down allowing defender Rachel Adams to step forward taking the ball and controlling the game allowing Oke to be on the front foot again. However, with a quick break from Exe gave them a short allowing them to score the first of the game. Oke carried on still determined and forward Annie Strawbridge used her speed to scare the Exe defence and applying pressure on their goalkeeper. Another break from Exe and another short meant that Exe lead the game 2-0. This did not let Okehampton drop their heads and they kept the pressure on, and with an excellent run into the D from Emma Wiseman Okehampton were awarded their first short corner, this unfortunately did not end in their favour as the shot went wide. Despite Captain Anna Luxton putting everything on the line to stop the ball Exe lead the game 4-0 at half time. Oke went into the second half with a new found focus with Lesley Bingham using her skills to pass the ball quickly up the pitch allowing forward Amy Taylor to take on a one on one with their keeper, unfortunately the weather was not in our favour and the effort did not pay off. Exe were back on the front foot despite keeper Alice Wiseman’s best efforts to assist the away side by generously awarding them a short corner for kicking the ball outside the D, player of the match Jane Jones put in some outstanding work to keep the ball out of the net. After an excellent carry up the pitch from Sophie Mugliston Oke were back on the attack, allowing another shot on goal, but the game was not going in Oke’s favour and the score line remained unchanged. Exe counter attacked quickly and despite Okehampton’s best efforts they lead the game 5-0. Okehampton continued the game with brave determination despite the weather conditions. Claire Grubb, continued to put up a great fight by continually chasing the ball back but Exe broke again, leaving Oke’s keeper vulnerable, despite this Emilia Bazley shocked the Exe attack by coming from behind to save their shot on the line. Unfortunately for Okehampton Exe were able to put in another goal just before full time leaving the score 6-0 to the away-side at full time. Okehampton 2s are playing Okehampton 1s next Saturday in Okehampton at 2pm.
