Match Report |
The game started well for Okehampton 1s despite the weather conditions on Saturday afternoon. Oke started the game with early pressure and a great run from midfielder Lucy Wiseman, gave Okehampton their first attack of the game. Quick thinking from Lesley Bingham on the post resulted in an early goal for Okehampton allowing them to lead the game 1-0. Torbay were determined on the counter attack testing Okehampton’s defence but a well-executed run allowed Nicky Strawbridge time with the ball resulting in her flicking the ball into the back of the net taking the score to 2-0 to the home team. Torbay acted quickly on the counter attacked but two well timed tackles from Laura Parsons meant Okehampton were back in control of the game, this allowed Nicky Pedrick to make a wonderful run into the D with a perfect pass to Lesley Bingham who used her great reach to slot another in past the Torbay keeper on the right post. Torbay came back determined, making a quick break but after a few crucial saves from the Okehampton Keeper Alice Wiseman the score line remained unchanged. With a new found energy Okehampton were back on the attack and an excellent ball carry from Captain Sophie Whiteley she was able to get past the Torbay midfielders and offload the ball, this allowed Kimbo Davey who is recently back from a short retirement to strike on the goal like she meant it, as Okehampton were awarded a Short Corner, smacking the ball past the Torbay keeper on her far post resulting in in Okehampton leading the game 4-0. With one last effort Torbay were back on the counter attack, but an excellent save on the line from Hannah Gibbons kept the score line unchanged going into the second half. Okehampton found a new fire in their hearts after half time, but Torbay wouldn’t give the game up without a fight, and after 20 minutes of end to end action the score remained unchanged. However, Okehampton were awarded a short corner with only 10 minutes to go and some excellent passing around the defenders allowed Lesley Bingham to score the 5th of the game complete a hat trick. Torbay were quick to attack the Okehampton defence earning themselves a short, but the Okehampton runners stepped up clearing the ball before a strike could be taken. With a quick clearance Okehampton were back on the attack allowing Rochelle Woollacott to use her speed to take the ball up the pitch to Player of the Match Emily Rowlands who looked up and saw a gap allowing her to slot the ball into the goal beautifully allowing Okehampton to end the game 6-0 up. Okehampton Ladies 1s next game is a cup match in Sidmouth on Saturday the 16th at 12:15. |
