After a week off due to snow, oke travelled to Honiton to play bottom of the league. A strong start from okehampton saw midfielders Ellie Shayler and Annie Strawbridge working the ball up to the attacking D for forwards Amy Taylor and Emma Wiseman to strike on goal. Several attempts on the goal saw the balls hitting the posts and bouncing back out into the field. A strong Honiton defence made it hard to get balls through and after a few short corners, Amy Taylor found the backboard putting Oke in the lead. A strong start by Honiton saw Okes central defenders MOM - Joey Drake and Rachel Adams working their magic to get the ball away from our goal and towards our attacking half. Several more shots were taken by Oke with attacker Elsa Frangleton working the rebounds but still couldn't find the back board. A half time chat saw Jane Jones giving some critical advice to take us into the second half. As usual, Okes game stepped up in the second half making it very hard for honiton players to have strikes on goal until an unmarked player on the post popped the ball past goal keeper Ella Kaye to bring the score line to 1-1. All was to play for now as oke needed this win. Powerful hits and expertly timed tackles from Debbie Pritchard and Jane Jones saw more strikes on goal but oke saw no result. Towards the end of the game, Honitons attacking play became much stronger but okehamptons defence and goal keeper never gave in under the pressure. A nasty injury to vice captain Rachel Adams saw oke go down to 10 men for the last 5 minutes yet oke was on the attack and last efforts from everyone on the team were unfortunately not met with a reward leaving oke with a much needed point as we continue to fight to stay in this league. Okehamptons next match is the 23rd Feb at home against Teign 2 at 2pm.
