OKEHAMPTON LADIES 2ND TEAM MATCH REPORT

Oke Ladies 2nd team hosted Newton Abbot Ladies on Saturday for their penultimate league game of the season.

Oke began the match with speed and determination fighting for any loose ball and hounding Newton Abbot whenever the visitors had possession.  Oke passed the ball with pace and accuracy especially on the left side of the pitch with defender Rachel Adams using Emilia Bazeley and Claire Grub to move the ball rapidly into attack.

Oke was a goal hungry team forcing the Newton Abbot defence into making mistakes.  Annie Strawbridge on the right wing surged ahead with her blistering pace linking well with centre forward Amy Taylor. 

Oke’s pressure was rewarded when a ball passed from midfield found Amy Taylor in the Newton Abbot circle. She drew the keeper before slotting the ball wide to Louise Weller who was perfectly positioned to put Oke in the lead.

Whilst Oke had dominated the first half, Newton Abbot were the stronger side after the half time break. Despite strong tackling and tight marking from midfielders Lesley Bingham and Carol Taylor, the visitors soon scored an equaliser.

Newton Abbot continued to pile on the pressure forcing Oke keeper Carol Newman to make a number of crucial saves. Oke were disappointed when the visitors took the lead after a goal mouth scramble resulted in the ball crossing the line.

Oke fought back committed to trying to score another goal.  Player of the Match, Sophie Mugliston playing at right back, tackled resolutely, gaining control of the ball and quickly moving into attack.  Despite a determined team effort to get an equalising goal Oke could not penetrate through the Newton Abbot defence and they were unlucky to concede another breakaway goal before the final whistle.

Next Saturday Oke Ladies 1st team play the 2nd team at 2pm
