Match Report | Top-of-the-table Okehampton A welcomed Plymouth Uni B looking to maintain their good form and their league position. The young team started well, with Glanville and Morgan working the ball around in the midfield to the front three of Jones, Jecks and Hughes. After a few close attempts, Hughes made an excellent break through the middle and calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to put Okehampton ahead. Plymouth Uni seemed rattled by this early goal and the Okehampton front three pressed well to turn over the ball and win a short corner, which Rowlands fired past the defence to double the Okehampton lead. Okehampton stayed positive and a nice run by Thomas led to Hughes at the top of the D, firing the ball past the keeper for his second of the day. The Uni’s pace led to some promising attacks. However, their shots were expertly batted away by keeper Yelland, who preserved Okehampton’s clean sheet. The Uni side started the second half strongly, using their strong pace to test the defence of L-Humbert, Bowles, Rodgers and Biaggi. On the counter-attack, Rodgers made an excellent run down the right channel and played the ball off to Jecks, who beat the keeper to make the score 4-0. Some brilliant play opened up the field for Rowlands who buried the ball in the back of the net for his second of the day. Okehampton gained three important points to remain at the top of the league heading into next week’s trip to Caradon. |
