Match Report

Still top of the table Okehampton A welcomed OPM’s B, and right from the outset piled the pressure on to the visitors. With the return of Jacob Smith to the attack Oke looked sharp and created chance after chance for their young forwards. As the first half pressed on, and the pressure built on the OPM defence, Hughes then struck the ball to the top of the D to find Paterson, who once again skilfully dribbled the ball through the defence, and put Okehampton 1-0 up.

Some structural changes at half time encouraged Okehampton to play around the back and down the flanks for Ash, Smith and Hughes to win possession and attack. As pressure was converted into penalty corners Okehampton threatened a second goal. As the ball got played to the half way line from Rowlands, and on to Smith who glided past the defence to release Jones whose shot hit the keeper; Smith pounced on the rebound slotting it in neatly in to the goal to make it 2-0 for Okehampton. As the second half progressed OPM increased the tempo putting more pressure on Okehampton’s defence and then eventually scoring.

Oke needed to score another to make the game safe, and this happened after some good approach play from Morgan and Paterson, giving Paterson space to rifle the shot home.

The result means that Oke A remain top of South West 1 with a tricky visit to Devonport Services next week
