Match Report | Sidmouth and Ottery 3rd 5 Okehampton 3rd 2
Okehampton 3rd team travelled to Ottery St Mary to take on top of the table Sidmouth and Ottery 3rds. Okehampton started the match in dominant form and took control of the game. With great passing up the pitch between Viv Weatherington, Jemima Vereker and Jess Bowles, Okehampton were soon putting the host’s defence under pressure. Forwards, Alex Collins and Chloe Stairs, made several attacks on goal and, after pouncing on 2 rebounds from the goalkeeper, Chloe struck the ball into the back of the goal. Okehampton continued with strong attack and Sidmouth and Ottery conceded a short corner, which Captain, Alex Collins, expertly fired past the keeper to make the score 2-0. The hosts then woke up and decided that they wanted to be part of the game. They made several strong runs down the centre of the pitch which were intercepted by player of the match, Mary Nelson. However, Sidmouth and Ottery continued to outwit the Okehampton defence and by half time had equalled the score at 2-2. The hosts continued with their attacking play and forced goalkeeper, Sammi Munson, to make several well timed saves. Defenders Hannah Woodhams, Laura Bazeley and Mary Nelson worked hard to intercept the host’s attempts to enter the D and were able to pass the ball wide to midfielders Sophie Tripp, Vereker and Collins, enabling them to push the play back to the other end of the pitch. However, despite strong marking by defenders and great tackling by Sandy Houston, the Okehampton defence were often outnumbered and Sidmouth and Ottery were able to score another 3 goals by the end of play. Next week Okehampton 3rd team are away against Tiverton White Eagles. |
