Match Report

Narrowly missing promotion at the end of last season, Okehampton A Men’s hockey team travelled to a rainy Truro, looking to kick-start their season with a win.

Out of the blocks quickly, Oke soon had Truro on the defensive, an early passage of play saw debutante Burke put Smith through on goal, calmly under pressure he coolly found the back of the net to put Okehampton into the lead. Truro’s skilful midfield began to dominate proceedings but the Okehampton midfielders of Morgan, Morgan and Smith had to stay composed in order to defend Oke lead.

A turnover of play saw Alfie Morgan play a delightful ball to the baseline, which Ash snuck in at the goalkeepers near post. As the first half drew to a close Okehampton held a 2-0 lead.

In the second half Oke looked to kill the game by adding a further goal, but Jarvis' efforts were saved brilliantly by the in form Truro goalkeeper. The pressure was beginning to build on the Oke defensive back line of Thomas, du Pré, Bowles and Biaggi, held out Truro’s relentless attacks. As the clock ticked, Truro pulled a goal back and with only 7 minutes to go Oke’s resolve was tested but could not prevent Truro winning a penalty corner. Goalkeeper L-Humbert was up to the task with a trademark left handed save winning the game for Oke.

As the final whistle blew Okehampton were delighted to bring home the 3 points.

Next week the A team have a home fixture against Duchy B starting at 12.15 in Okehampton.
