Match Report |
Okehampton A travelled to Plymouth to face the Devonport Services 2nd team who, like Okehampton had had a good win last weekend.
Okehampton dominated the early minutes and the ball fell kindly to Chris Luxton who powered a shot past the surprised Plymouth keeper to take an early lead. This fired up the Devonport team and they upped the tempo and started to press and break up Okehampton's rhythm. The home advantage and superior strength finally began to take it's toll and Services levelled the score from a penalty corner beating the outstretched Goulding in the Okehampton goal.
Okehampton continued to create chances on the counter attack with wingers Ash and Jarvis serving up some great opportunities only to see chances missed in front of goal.
The second half was a carbon copy of the first, strong aggressive tackling from the home side and dogged defending from Okehampton, Finley Bower made his league debut and made an impressive start to senior hockey. With just 10 minutes of the game remaining, man of the match Retallack broke up a Plymouth attack and powered down the field winning a penalty corner for the away side. Sensing the chance to take the lead, Morgan's shot, sadly, narrowly missed the Services goal. As the game ebbed away, the home side counter attacked, and were awarded a penalty corner; despite the best efforts of defending trio, senior Jarvis, Watts and du Pre, Devonport converted to make the final score 2-1.
The side have a break next week, but will come back strong the following week for the visit of OPM 3rds
