Match Report |
Okehampton seconds hockey team travelled over the border into Cornwall, to play the Duchy seconds.
Oke started with the ball, making room on the wing for duPre to draw the defence out, and then deliver a pin point cross but sadly no Oke player was able to get on the end of it.
Duchy started to build their attack, making the Okehampton defence of Jarvis, Bowles, Watts and Lewis-Humbert stand their ground with timely tackles, but when Duchy were through on goal Goulding came sliding out from the Okehampton goal, to intercept the ball from the Duchy attacker. Oke conceded a short corner, which Duchy managed to convert.
Okehampton made a few breaks in between the attacks, with Morgan and Yells holding the midfield, and feeding the ball to Luxton, who tried to open the Oke account but was thwarted by the Duchy defence. At the other end Duchy had a couple of short corners, all calmly dealt with by Goulding and the Oke defence. From the next Duchy short corner, Bowles cleared the ball to Morgan who tore through the midfield and passed out to du Pre on the wing. The ball came into the D where Ash calmly slotted the ball home and equalised.
The second half started much as the first, but with Okehampton legs starting to tire, Duchy began to take control of the game. An early short corner to Duchy gave them a 2-1 lead and they continued to attack but were unable to add to their tally. Oke patiently absorbed the pressure, and gradually got back into the game with Morgan, Yells and Ash stringing together some beautiful passes putting the Duchy defence into disarray.
This then built Okehampton’s momentum, and when Luxton’s shot was deflected duPre calmly dribbled the ball into the open goal.
Both teams tried to find the winning goal but it wasn’t to be and it leaves Okehampton one point behind Duchy in fifth position in the league.
