Match Report | On Saturday, Okehampton Men’s 2’s hockey team hosted Duchy 3’s in their first home game of the season. Play started with a quick attack from the visiting side, which was swiftly dealt with by the Okehampton defence of Lewis-Humbert, Nesbitt and Watts. Play continued with both teams having their fair share of attacks and counter-attacks, but it was Duchy who took the early lead when their centre forward slid a loose ball past the legs of stand in goalkeeper, duPre. Oke used their subs to advantage with some fresh legs coming on in the form of Maxa, Jolley jnr and Pealing, and raised the tempo and forcing Duchy back into their half. Oke won a short corner just as the half time whistle blew; as the short played out, the Duchy keeper saved a series of shots until finally, Maxa flicked the ball into the back of the net to level the scores at 1-1. The second half began much as the first, with Duchy quickly putting pressure on the Oke midfield but they absorbed the onslaught and gradually began to turn the tables and put attack the Duchy defence; a pinpoint cross from Nesbitt was deflected into the goal by Maxa, taking the score line to 2-1 to the home team. Play continued, with man of the match Howard controlling much of the centre of the pitch, forcing the ball up to the Oke attack. However, it was not to be, and soon Duchy came back with newfound vigour. Relentless attacks prevailed in the end as Duchy forced the ball passed the Okehampton defence and into the goal. Okehampton fought back valiantly but were unable to make any headway against the opposition. As the game entered its final minutes, neither Okehampton nor Duchy were able to make any changes to the score line. The game ended a 2-2 draw, ready for the teams to meet again, later in the season. This coming Saturday the men’s First team entertain Ocean city from Plymouth at 12.15 on the college pitch where support will be welcome and the two’s travel to play Truro. |
