Truro 4’s travelled to play Okehampton 2’s on Saturday and provided stern opposition. With some key Okehampton players unavailable, the game was the ideal opportunity for Tim Morgan and Neil Rowlands to resume their midfield partnership from seasons past and some new young players, notable Leo Reed, to have his debut. Truro took full advantage of the situation straight from the start, and were a goal up in no time at all. This galvanised the home side; stout defence from Jimmy L-Humbert and Tom Watts thwarted the Truro attack and gave Oke the chance to settle and begin to build their own attack. Ben Tucker worked tirelessly in midfield, and Finlay Bower used his pace to attack the Truro goal. Pushing forward into the Truro circle, Adam duPre and Rowlands combined well, and Rowlands deflected the ball neatly past the visiting keeper to level the scores before half-time.
Truro increased their pace in the second half second attacking from the outset, testing Venton in the Okehampton goal and forcing a series of penalty corners. Truro converted two. As both the young and old legs began to tire, mistakes started to creep in from the Oke players, but they pushed forward trying to claw themselves back into the game. However it was not to be Oke’s day and Truro added a fourth to secure a comfortable win. Next week, Oke travel to Falmouth.
